The Hokkaido Storm Chaser
The Nagano storm chaser is a 7 day tour, with 5 ski days and at least 4 different resorts. The best of Japan's powder in one package trip
You've heard about it and you've been waiting for your turn to shred Japan's famous, puffy powder and that's all you want to do--all day, every day.
You know what Niseko has to offer--you've seen the videos. But you've also heard rumors of other less known and less easily accessible resorts in Hokkaido where snow is left sad and untracked, hoping for the day someone would come and shred it. Don't worry, we've got you covered.
The 7-day Storm Chaser is seven days of just that; non-stop powder. And if for some reason the pow isn't good one day? We'll hop in a van and chase the best possible storms.
Ski Skill Level: Intermediate to Advanced
Our ski trips are geared toward intermediate to advanced skiers and riders. As an intermediate skier you should at least be able to ski down blue slopes using short, controlled turns and are in control 90% of the time on all slopes. While this trip includes guided mountain orientation tours, it does not include guided side country or backcountry tours. During the mountain orientation tour, your guide will fill you in on the best side country/backcountry routes where you can ski to some hidden powder stashes.
Package Ski Tour Summary
Following your arrival at Sapporo's Chitose Airport--the staging ground for Niseko--depending on your arrival time, the skiing can begin immediately.
After getting settled into our four-star hotel, the guide will take you on a resort orientation tour. This is the fast-track to getting to know the best side-country access gates and also becoming familiar with where not to go if you don't want to end up hiking out of a stream.
We stay around the Niseko area for the next couple of days. If for some reason the snow around Niseko isn't proving to be mind-blowing, we'll pack our van and storm-chase until we find the good stuff. Alternate options include resorts such as Rusutsu, Moiwa, and Teine.
After sufficiently skiing the Niseko area, we travel up the interior of Hokkaido to the hidden gem of Japan's snow--the Asahikawa area. Haven't heard of it? Exactly. The snow quality is even better than Niseko and the runs will be yours as most Westerners don't stray this far from the safety of Niseko. From our central lodging, we storm-chase each day and choose a different ski area depending on what the weather is doing.
At the end of each day, we can soak ourselves in natural hot springs, treat ourselves to delicious Japanese food, and think about how life couldn't get much better.
