Huts on Mt.Fuji come with a unique cultural experience. Before you set out on your hike, read the tips below for a smooth integration with Japanese norms. Thank you and have a great hike!
Start your hike at a reasonable time. We recommend that you have lunch before you start hiking. Leave the trail head 1pm and no later than 3pm.
Assess your your hiking experience, fitness, and hut destination. It may take five to six hours if headed toward the 8th Station.
Arrive at your hut at a reasonable time (5-8pm). Most huts do not serve dinner past 9pm.
Pay attention to where you should take off your shoes. It is common in Japan to take of your shoes before entering indoors. Look around. Is there a shoe rack, slippers, raised entry? These are indicators that you should take your shoes off. If you are unsure, ask an employee.
Do you need to cancel? We understand, travel plans may change. Please contact Fuji Mountain Guides at least three days in advance for cancellations. If you are unable to contact us, you will need to contact the mountain hut directly. Information centers can be found here.
Please don’t arrive past 9pm. Most huts do not serve food beyond 9pm and other guests are most likely asleep for their early morning start. Sleeping quarters are tight and you don’t want to wake them up!
Please don’t be too loud. You are sharing a hut with other guests. Most are aiming for a start before sunrise and need their rest.
Please don’t linger around the dining room if you notice it is getting crowded. The dining rooms are not large enough to feed everyone at once. The employees may politely ask you to move into the next room.
