Meeting the tour at Gotemba Station makes sense if you're coming from famous locations around Mt. Fuji like Hakone or Kawaguchi-ko. Here is a picture of the meeting point which is located inside Gotemba train station, right across from the only ticket machines in the station. Gotemba is a very small station so it should be easy to find this Bellmart convenience store.

Getting dropped off at Gotemba train station makes sense if you're heading to points south or west after your climb, such as Kyoto or Osaka. From Gotemba Station you can take a local train to join up with the Bullet Train line (Shinkansen) at Mishima Station. The picture here shows a sample itinerary of how to get from Gotemba to Kyoto. You can find your own itinerary by accessing this link here.

This route is fully covered by the Japan Rail Pass.

Getting dropped off at Gotemba is also the best option if you're heading to Kawaguchi-ko or Hakone after your climb.
