Yoshida Trail

THE KAMAIWAKAN HUT

2,790M / 9,153FT

Hut reservations for summer 2023 will start from April 1, 2023

Kamaiwakan is located at 2,790 meters at the 7th station on the Yoshida Trail. Kamaiwakan was rebuilt in 2016 and is the newest hut on Mt. Fuji. The mountain hut is about two to three hours hiking from the Subaru Line 5th Station.
Mountain huts on Mt. Fuji were originally built as emergency shelters and exist to this day as shelters from harsh mountain conditions. All huts offer simple dorm style accommodation. Because the mission of the huts is to provide safety and shelter to as many hikers as possible, it is not possible to pay for extra space. The huts provide the essential shelter and food you need to reach Mt. Fuji's summit.

Hut Etiquette

Huts on Mt.Fuji are a unique cultural experience. Here are a few tips for a smooth trip.

Hut Rules

  • Dinner is between 4:30pm to 7:30pm
  • Check in at Kamaiwakan is from 1:00 pm
  • Check out is 5:00 am
  • Lights out between 7:00 - 8:00 pm

Facilities

  • Newly constructed in 2016.
  • Western style toilets.
  • Dinner is served inside a large tatami matted room, with low table seating.
  • Pack it in, pack it out. There are no trash cans. All personal trash must be packed out and disposed of off the mountain.
  • Immediately below Kamaiwakan is a first aid center run in cooperation with a university hospital. The first aid center is operated between late July and late August.

Sleeping Quarters

  • Futon with sleeping bags and pillows are provided by the mountain hut.
  • Most sleeping quarters have bunk beds that are two to three levels, each fitting 20-30 people per level.
  • Going to the bathroom can be a challenge involving stepping over other guests and climbing down the bunk bed ladders. Be careful!
  • From summer 2021 guests are now each afforded 1 tatami mat worth of space. This means it is no longer shoulder to shoulder sleeping conditions, however, there will still be multiple climbing parties sleeping in the same room. We recommend bringing ear plugs!

Food

Dinner
Kamaiwakan prepares a beef bowl (Gyudon Teishoku), along with a couple of side dishes including pickled vegetables, and miso soup. Japanese green tea is also provided with your meal. Dinner is served between 4:30pm and 7:30 pm, first come first serve.

Vegetarian
Upon request, a vegetarian (certified vegan) curry can be prepared for dinner. If you would like a vegetarian curry for dinner, please request it during the reservation process.

Breakfast
Breakfast is not included at this hut, but bread and prepackaged meals are available for sale at the store inside Kamaiwakan.
