Setokan is located at 2,700 meters and at the 6th Station on the Subashiri Trail. This hut is the second, and original, of two 6th Stations on the Subashiri Trail. From the Subashiri 5th station, it takes approximately 2 hours to reach Setokan and marks one third of the climb to Mt. Fuji's summit. Rather than depart Setokan in the middle of the night for a sunrise summit, many climbers choose to view the sunrise from the 6th station and journey on to the summit in daylight. This allows you to avoid the human traffic encountered at the summit in the early hours and enjoy a more relaxed and peaceful approach to summiting and descending Mt. Fuji. See photos below of the sunrise viewed from just outside Setokan!

Regarding Mt. Fuji Mountain Huts

Mountain huts on Mt. Fuji were originally built as emergency shelters and exist to this day as shelters from harsh mountain conditions. All huts offer simple dorm style accommodation. Because the mission of the huts is to provide safety and shelter to as many hikers as possible, it is not possible to pay for extra space. The huts provide the essential shelter and food you need to reach Mt. Fuji's summit.

It is important to note that huts on Mt. Fuji, including Setokan do not provide a heated dry room for drying out wet gear. It is important to climb with spare, dry clothes kept in dry bags so you will have a change of clothes in the event you are to show up at the mountain hut in wet weather.
