TAISHIKAN MOUNTAIN HUT

3,100M / 10,170FT

Hut reservations for summer 2023 will start from April 24, 2023

Taishikan is located at 3,100 meters at the 8th Station on the Yoshida Trail. This mountain hut is located at around the halfway point between the Subaru Line 5th Station and the summit, marking the first of multiple 8th stations.
Mountain huts on Mt. Fuji were originally built as emergency shelters and exist to this day as shelters from harsh mountain conditions. All huts offer simple dorm style accommodation and in recent years some huts have begun offering private capsule/private room options as well. Because the mission of the huts is to provide safety and shelter to as many hikers as possible, it is not possible to pay for extra space in the dormitory rooms. We are currently only accepting reservations for dormitory rooms at Taishikan. All reservations include 2 meals, futon, sleeping bag and a pillow.

It is important to note that huts on Mt. Fuji, including Taishikan, do not provide a heated dry room for drying out wet gear. It is important to climb with spare, dry clothes kept in dry bags so you will have a change of clothes in the event you are to show up at the mountain hut in wet weather.

Sleeping Quarters

  • Futon with sleeping bags and pillows are provided by the mountain hut.
  • Most sleeping quarters have bunk beds that are two to three levels, each fitting 20-30 people per level.
  • Going to the bathroom can be a challenge involving stepping over other guests and climbing down the bunk bed ladders. Be careful!
  • From summer 2021 guests are each afforded 1 tatami mat worth of space. This means it is no longer shoulder to shoulder sleeping conditions, however, there will still be multiple climbing parties sleeping in the same room. We recommend bringing ear plugs!

Facilities

  • Western style toilets.
  • Dinner is served inside a large room with tables and benches for seating.
  • Pack it in, pack it out. There are no trash cans. All personal trash must be packed out and disposed of off the mountain.
  • No dry rooms!
  • Adjacent to Taishikan is a First Aid station operated by doctors and medics. It is open from mid July to late August.

Food

Dinner
Japanese curry rice with a couple of small side dishes and green tea. Dinner is served from 4 pm in the order of arrival. If you arrive at the hut past 6 pm you may forfeit your dinner.

Vegetarian
If you would like a vegetarian curry for dinner, please request it during the reservation process.

Breakfast
For guests attempting to watch the sunrise from the summit, breakfast is handed out as a packed "bento" or lunchbox. This can be carried with you to eat on your way to or at the summit. It includes rice, meat, and pickled vegetable, and bottled of water.
